Conditional to Contribute to Energy Development in Southern Africa
International Energy Network News: Mozambican President Guebuza emphasized in Maputo on the 5th that due to its rich and diversified energy resources, Mozambique is well-positioned to contribute to the energy development of southern Africa.
Guebuza said at the first African Union Energy Ministers' Meeting that attaching importance to the construction of electricity production and transmission infrastructure will allow Mozambique to significantly improve its power supply capacity in the medium and long term and promote the country's industrialization process. He pointed out that through the Southern African Electricity Company Association, Mozambique can bring its energy development capabilities to the benefit of all countries in the region.
When talking about the issue of renewable energy, he said that Mozambique will continue to develop energy diversification to reduce the impact of climate change. He emphasized that energy infrastructure plays an important role in promoting social and economic development in Africa.
When talking about the current energy situation in Africa, he said that the African continent currently faces a situation of rich resources but lack of energy. African countries have set out to reverse this situation and are establishing and developing regional power company associations in different parts of the continent.
Mwencha, Vice Chairman of the African Union Commission, said in his speech that in order to achieve its own development, Africa should invest US$90 billion in infrastructure construction every year. He believes that the above-mentioned investments are very important in order to achieve the annual economic growth rate of 5% to 10% in African countries. He pointed out that the African continent will have a population of 2 billion by 2030, so only by vigorously building the necessary infrastructure can Africa's future prosperity be achieved.
