The Czech Republic Plans to Achieve Nationwide Coverage of Charging Piles

The European Commission said it will strongly support the Czech Republic's plan to vigorously build charging piles for the popularization of electric vehicles, and will provide it with US$52 million to build charging and fueling for electric, natural gas or hydrogen fuel vehicles nationwide in the next six years. supply station and will not affect the normal market order.

“The Czech plan is another good example of member states’ efforts to combat global warming,” Commissioner for Competition Policy Margrethe Vestager said in a statement. “The plan will promote alternative fuel, reducing harmful vehicle emissions and encouraging consumers and businesses to use greener transport without distorting competition."

Czech leaders emphasized in June that air quality is one of the country's top environmental issues, with the transportation sector accounting for a quarter of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions.

Europe's goal is to achieve "irreversible low-emission transport" to reduce pollution in the transportation sector. Norway is the European electric vehicle market leader, with around 100,000 electric vehicles currently in use.

The British and French governments said this year they would work to phase out traditional gas-powered cars. German Federal Transport Minister Dorothee Bär said the government has allocated $355 million to build tens of thousands of charging stations on the national highway network.

The International Energy Agency expects the number of electric vehicles worldwide to at least quadruple by 2020, although cost remains a factor hindering their further deployment. According to 2016 data, electric vehicles account for only 0.2% of the global automotive market.
