Cambodia’s Gold and Aluminum Mines are Called the Second Largest Development Potential

According to a report by Cambodia's Huashang Daily on June 8, following the recent discovery of a large number of oil deposits, Cambodia has reported the discovery of a second large-scale resource reserve worthy of the world's attention - gold and aluminum ores. Today, many foreign companies are stepping up exploration and plan to exploit and use mineral resources buried under tens of thousands of hectares of land in the near future. Officials pointed out that gold mines and aluminum mines are Cambodia's second largest development potential and will play a great role in driving the country's economic development.

Xie Xianghong, State Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy of Cambodia, said that after more than a year of exploration work, relevant parties have confirmed that Cambodia has a large number of gold and aluminum ores, most of which were discovered in Mondoki. Li and Ratanakiri provinces. In addition, there are some gold mines in Preah Vihear and Kampong Thom provinces, but the content is smaller.

It is worth pointing out that Southern Gold Limited from Australia signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cambodian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy in September last year to conduct exploration in the 959 square kilometers mining area in Ratanakiri Province, but the current exploration area It has expanded to 1,413 square kilometers. Three other unnamed Australian companies are exploring in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri provinces respectively. In addition, in Kisan, Kampong Thom Province, an Australian company is cooperating with a local company to conduct exploration to determine how much content the mining area contains before negotiating with the government to enter mining.

He said that regarding aluminum ore exploration, Prime Minister Hun Sen of the Royal Government had signed a memorandum when he visited Australia last year to allow the Australian BHP company to conduct exploration in Mondulkiri Province. Currently, an Australian company and a Japanese company are carrying out exploration work. The government has not limited the exploration time, but only needs to reapply for approval every two years. However, so far, the two companies have not been able to determine how much content there is. They only said that if the content is found to be suitable for mining, the company will apply to the government to build a factory and enter mining.

Many environmental protection workers have also expressed concern that mineral resource exploration will cause serious damage to the environment. But the state secretary said: "If it is discovered that mineral resources buried underground are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, we will consider whether the environmental losses and the income that will be gained are worth it?"

According to reports, the local Southern Mining company has been approved to explore in the mining area in Pursat Province and has so far discovered nearly 6 million tons of krypton, tin and copper ores. In addition, the Rowan iron ore area explored by Cambodia Steel Group Company in Preah Vihear Province also contained millions of tons of iron.
