CNET Technology Information Network
reported on March 1 that Microsoft is considering allowing users to "use
less hands and use more feet" when handling email tasks.
Microsoft's research arm has developed a
prototype email software that allows users to review and delete emails using
their feet. StompMail software uses a standard dance mat.
The origin of the StompMail project is that
computer input work will cause excessive fatigue on the user's hands, while
riding a bicycle, playing the piano and other tasks require both hands and
feet. It's also part of a broader look at the role of feet in computing tasks.
Kevin, general manager of Microsoft's
strategy and communications division, said that there are many tasks that we
can complete using our hands and feet, but the use of computers has not been
among them.
StepMail is just one of more than 150
projects Microsoft is showcasing at this year's TechFest. The researchers have
not yet decided whether StepMail will be integrated into Microsoft products.
Kevin pointed out that this technology has
broad application prospects and may be integrated into a Microsoft product - or
even the Windows operating system itself. It can be used in most applications
and can also increase employee activity and improve employee health.
