Global Solar Council Established in Paris, France
On the afternoon of December 6, local time in Paris, France, the Global Solar Council ("GSC") held its founding ceremony. Gao Jifan, chairman and CEO of Trina Solar, was elected as co-chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association. After the establishment of the Global Solar Council, it plans to headquarter in China. The 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris from November 30 to December 11. Heads of state and government from all over the world attended the conference and negotiated a new global climate agreement with the goal of Limit global temperature rise to 2 degrees Celsius.
The Global Solar Council is a unified solar industry body established at the international level by leading regional and national solar associations to share successful experiences and promote the development of the global solar market. The Council believes that solar power generation has become one of the cheapest power resources in the world and is currently a common form of power generation. As a clean energy source, solar energy has cost advantages in combating climate change. The Council argued that in order to avoid global temperature rise exceeding 2ºC, it is imperative to accelerate the deployment of solar power generation. Under the guidance of the correct market environment, solar power generation in the world should increase from less than 1% currently to the target of 10% in 2030.
Gao Jifan, chairman and CEO of Trina Solar and chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, said: "I am very honored to serve as co-chairman of the Global Solar Council on behalf of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association. I believe the establishment of the Global Solar Council marks the development of the solar industry Entering a new era, a unified force will be formed representing all members sharing the same goals. Solar energy has become the main source of electricity generation today. Trina Solar’s cumulative shipments in the past decade have reached 15 GW, equivalent to an annual reduction of Emitting 18 million tons of carbon emissions. Advances in technology have continued to reduce the cost of photovoltaics. Solar energy has become the most common way of generating electricity and will play a greater role in combating climate change. I believe that the Global Solar Energy Council will further promote the use of solar energy. Benefiting all humanity in combating climate change.”
